Wellbeing SA understands and acknowledges the significant impact suicide has on our community and is partnering to deliver key initiatives for suicide prevention, including development of South Australia’s next Suicide Prevention Plan, supporting Suicide Prevention Networks across the state, and providing training and capacity building.
Following our establishment as an independent government agency in 2020, Wellbeing SA has been tasked as the lead state government agency supporting community-based suicide prevention initiatives.
This work is important because suicide is the leading cause of death for people aged 15 to 44 years and the third leading cause of death for people aged 45 to 55 years. Suicide is complex and does not result from one single cause.
Understanding the range of challenges that people face helps us understand potential solutions. Raising awareness, breaking down the stigma, increasing connection and responding compassionately can save lives.
