Wellbeing SA is leading action on injury prevention across South Australia, providing monitoring of sustained injuries and supporting public health initiatives to prevent injuries, with a focus on early years and older populations.
Key to our investment and action on injury prevention, is the establishment of a South Australian Injury Surveillance System (SAISS). Maintained by the Injury Surveillance and Prevention team, this surveillance system will create a rich data source and evidence base to inform prevention activities and guide policy, standards and legislation with the aim of reducing injuries in the community.
Initially launching within the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network, patients presenting to emergency departments with an injury will be invited to complete a survey about when, where, and how the injury occurred. Development of the registry application is underway and anticipated to be completed in early 2022.
Our Injury Surveillance and Prevention team also supports Local Health Networks with the maintenance and reporting of the South Australian Trauma Registry.
