Hospital level care at home for Mount Barker residents

When Fred became unwell, he went to went to his local public hospital emergency department. There his condition was assessed and he was offered the choice of staying in hospital or receiving his care in the comfort of his own home through Wellbeing SA’s My Home Hospital service.

My Home Hospital delivers hospital level care in the comfort and privacy of a patient’s own home. It includes doctors, nurses, allied health practitioners, some x-rays, blood tests, medication and other support services, depending on the patient’s needs.

Patients are visited at home by an experienced registered nurse and reviewed by their My Home Hospital doctor at least once daily, receiving the acute care they need.

“I was very impressed with the service. The doctor rang daily and the nurses who visited were great,” Fred said.

“The best part was that I could have my wife’s cooking and sleep in my own bed. I felt extremely fortunate to receive my care at home.”

Fred’s wife Margrit agreed.

“It was fantastic having Fred receive his care at home. I didn’t have to drive to the hospital to visit him and the nurses were so patient. They really listened to us and explained everything clearly,” she said.

Patients can be referred to My Home Hospital by their GP, medical specialist, nurse practitioner, SA Ambulance Service or from an emergency department or hospital.

My Home Hospital is a Wellbeing SA service delivered by a joint venture between Calvary and Medibank. It is available at no charge to eligible public patients across the metropolitan Adelaide area, Gawler and Mount Barker regions and surrounds.
