Bushfire grants supporting the KI community

The Kangaroo Island community came together to participate in a series of weaving workshops to build social connection, after the 2020 bushfires.

During these workshops, participants wove ‘rattles’ from locally sourced plants, adding a feather and brass bell. The rattles were then attached to a tree, to form a kinetic sculpture.

The public can view the ‘rattles’ as part of ‘The Rattle Tree’ at the Kangaroo Island Sculpture Trail, located at Frenchmans Terrace, Penneshaw.

The workshops were funded via Wellbeing SA’s Strengthening Community Wellbeing after Bushfires Grant Program.

Wellbeing SA will launch Round 3 of bushfire grants mid-2022 to support bushfire affected communities within Kangaroo Island, Yorketown and surrounding areas, and the Adelaide Hills. If you would like to be notified of the Round 3 bushfire grant application dates, email wellbeingsa.bushfirerecovery@sa.gov.au.
